1. Learn more about the Solar Eclipse at MOSI (Saturday 21st March)

Following the eagerly anticipated (near-total) solar eclipse today, MOSI in Manchester is holding a free event on Saturday to explain more about this phenomenon. There’s no need to book tickets, you can just turn up.

Let Manchester Astronomical Society and Manchester University’s School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences reveal the secrets of one of the most amazing events of the celestial calendar. Budding Chris Hadfields and Brian Coxes can discover more about our solar system and its place in the universe.

Times: 10.30am-3.30pm. Pi: Platform for Investigation, Museum of Science and Industry, Liverpool Road, Manchester M3 4FP

2. Learn to Play Day at Dawsons in Altrincham (Saturday 21st March)

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in your family who would like to try their hand at a musical instrument. On Saturday, Dawsons in Altrincham is hosting a whole day of lessons and demonstrations, helping you to take your first steps in music.

Learn to Play Day was founded by UK-based charity Music For All to help introduce (or re-introduce) as many people as possible to playing a musical instrument. Whether you or your kids fancy yourselves as a guitarist, pianist, drummer or even a DJ, Learn to Play Day is the perfect excuse to get down to Dawsons and give it a try!

3. Bruntwood Park in Cheadle

With spring in the air, Bruntwood Park is a gorgeous place to spend a couple of hours with the kids. There is something for all the family to enjoy including a play area for toddlers, an adventure playground complete with pirate ship and sandpit, an 18-hole Pitch and Putt course and a BMX cycle track. A lovely place for a stroll, the park has a duck pond.

The refreshment kiosk by the playground is great for ice-creams and coffees or should you prefer something more substantial, you can try the Vinery Restaurant in the converted original Victorian conservatory.

Over the road, The Village Hotel, just opposite the entrance to Bruntwood Park, serves a great carvery in very contemporary surroundings. Perfect way to round off a Sunday in the park!

4. Sunday Brunch at Victor’s, Hale

If you fancy a treat, I can highly recommend a family Sunday Brunch at Victor’s in Hale. A surprisingly chilled affair in super cool surroundings – the food is great and the price is too (full ‘American’ is £8). Perfect way to start your Sunday. Enjoy!

5. Adventure Babies in Sale

Adventure Babies is a fun, interactive class for little ones across three age appropriate sessions:

  • Discoverers – babies 0-6 months old
  • Explorers – babies 6-18 months old
  • Adventurers – under 4s (sibling discount!)

Local mum and former teacher, Emma, is brilliant at planning fun, interactive activities to take the babies and older children on specially designed adventures, providing the perfect opportunity to instil a love of books and reading. The little ones get so much out of the sessions but it’s also a great place to meet other mums, dads, grandparents and children.

The adventures are usually based on a specific story and this helps to promote communication skills, build vocabulary and enhances memory, listening and attention skills. Every week there is something messy to play in so don’t forget your towel… or your camera!

Click here or contact emma@adventurebabies.co.uk for more information.

The Sale classes run at The Avenue Methodist Church, Wincham Rd, M33 4PL on Mondays at the following times: 6-18 months (10.15am and 11.15am), 0-6 months (12.30pm), Under 4s (13.45pm). Book up now using you MITK discount for 10% off for limited spaces! www.bookwhen.com/adventurebabies discount code MITK10
