Yorkshire Bank to close Altrincham branch in September

Yorkshire Bank has announced it is to close its Altrincham branch in September.

Yorkshire Bank has announced it is to close its Altrincham branch in September.

The Stamford New Road branch, which occupies a prominent space next door to the entrance to the Grafton Mall shopping centre, is one of 19 being closed by the bank as it prepares to float on the stock market.

In a statement, the bank said falling walk-in customers and the increase in online banking were behind the decision.

It will close on September 25th, and says it will contact customers in writing at least 12 weeks before that date.

The next nearest Yorkshire Bank branch is eight miles away in Stockport, but the bank said customers could still manage their accounts from the Post Office on George Street. It says it also “expects” to keep the branch’s ATM.

The branch’s three staff will be relocated to other branches in the area, which apart from Stockport include Warrington and Macclesfield.

Steve Fletcher, head of branch network, Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: “We understand customers will be disappointed by this news, but hope the proximity of the Post Office, and the ever increasing range of alternative ways they can bank with us will minimise any impacts.

“These are not decisions we take lightly but we must adapt to the changing ways people choose to bank in order to deliver the services they want in the ways they want them. Our branches remain at the heart of what we do; we are re-investing, relocating and refurbishing to deliver better, modern branches for customers.”
