Altrincham trams suffer severe delays after jump leads incident at Timperley

By David Prior at

There was major disruption to trams on the Altrincham line this afternoon when vandals threw jump leads on to the overhead wires in Timperley.

Services stopped running at around 2pm after what was first described as an “overhead line fault”.

Trams terminated at Trafford Bar and passengers had to use train and bus services while engineers sorted the problem.

Metrolink confirmed that the stoppage was caused by jump leads being thrown onto the overhead wires. The “act of vandalism” is now being investigated by police.

Services resumed at around 4pm but it’s understood that there were still severe delays on the line during the rush-hour commute.
