The Met Office has today issued a yellow wind warning for Greater Manchester for tomorrow afternoon – as well as Christmas Day itself.

Gusts of around 50 to 60mph are likely on both days, with up to 70mph in exposed locations on Friday.

Christmas Eve and Boxing Day are expected to be much quieter.

The weather could play havoc with travel plans tomorrow, with many planning to use the roads and railways to get home for Christmas.

Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesman, said: “The main part of Barbara will be further north. However, there’s a squally front moving across the UK associated with Barbara, which will bring strong winds and sharp bursts of rain.

“We have issued a yellow [be aware] warning, given that there will be many people on the roads, extending from the north-east right down to the south-west.”
