A newsagent suffered a head injury after being assaulted in his own shop in Altrincham town centre yesterday.

Police were called to the incident at Kays Newsagents at Altrincham Interchange at 5pm yesterday afternoon.

The male victim, the owner of the shop, was found bleeding from a head injury.

He had been assaulted by a man who had come into the shop, struck him to the floor and then hit him again as he lay on the ground behind his counter.

The victim did not however require hospital treatment and it’s understood he will be returning to work later on this afternoon.

Police confirmed that they had detained a man.
