An Altrincham school is mourning the death of a teacher described as “truly an amazing man and a credit to his profession”.
Matt Rogers, a teacher in the Social Sciences department at Loreto Grammar School, died suddenly last week. He was a married father in his 30s. No details have yet been given about the circumstances of his death.
In a letter sent to parents, school headteacher Jane Beever said that Mr Rogers was a “long serving and valued member of staff” who had taught at Advanced Level in the school’s Social Sciences department.
She added: “He was a person of immense intelligence, dry wit and commitment to those privileged to have been taught by him. As a Sixth Form tutor he played a key role in the lives of his students as a wise and considered person.
“He will be greatly missed by members of this community both past and present.”
Tiffany Anne, a former pupil who left the school in 2013, was taught psychology by Mr Rogers.
She said: “Mr Rogers was truly an amazing man and a credit to his profession. A gentleman of true class, always.
“He was not only a teacher but a friend, and I can truly and safely say so many are, and will be, shocked and saddened by this awful news. To lose someone so young who touched the lives of so many is truly heartbreaking.”
