Plans approved to build on former bowling green in Altrincham town centre

Trafford Council has approved plans to build on a site described as one of the last available vacant plots in Altrincham town centre.

Trafford Council has approved plans to build on a site described as one of the last available vacant plots in Altrincham town centre.

The overgrown land on Albert Place is part of Altrincham’s Old Market Place Conservation Area and was once the home of the Stamford Bowling Club, which dates back to 1844.

But it has been unused since 2005 and Trafford’s planning committee has unanimously approved plans by Landmark Property Group Ltd to build a residential development under its residential brand, Landmark Living.

The former bowling green as it is today

Four semi-detached houses will now be built, with the old bowling pavilion renovated and converted into a detached two-bed bungalow.

Konrad Keller, managing director of Landmark Property Group Ltd, said: “It’s quite a unique site that’s steeped in history and one of the last remaining available plots in Altrincham town centre.

“We’ve seen so much activity in Altrincham over the last few years. The market has brought an eclectic mix of people back into the town, and there’s the right balance of residential and business now, which bodes well for the town moving forward.”

The site has lain unused for 12 years

Landmark Living has recently completed a gated development of three homes at Wellington Gardens in Timperley, a project that was recognised as a finalist in the Residential category at the Northern Design Awards.

Keller added: “The Albert Place development won’t be the same in design as Wellington Gardens but it will certainly match it for quality and craftsmanship.”

Landmark is likely to be on site in six months with the build completed a year later.
