A fire has caused serious damage to the Quarry Bank Inn in Timperley this afternoon.
Four fire engines from Sale, Altrincham and Wythenshawe, along with a support unit from Hyde, were called to the fire on Bloomsbury Lane at 4.45pm.
Everyone in the pub at the time managed to escape unhurt, and firefighters even managed to rescue the landlord’s cat, Houdini.
It’s thought that the fire started in a logburner and most of the damage is in the first floor flat above the pub.
Pictures showed flames ripping through the roof of the pub.
Firefighters, who used four breathing apparatus, three hose reels, breaking in gear and a thermal image camera and lighting to extinguish the fire. said it could have been a “much bigger incident” had their response not been so swift.
Firefighters now have the fire at Quarry Bank Inn well under control and we're going down to two fire engines. This could have been a much bigger incident if our crews hadn't dealt with it so quickly. Good job 👍

Firefighters were still at the scene at 7.15pm.
It’s not known yet exactly how extensive the damage to the pub is or how long it will be closed for.
