The managing director of Altrincham-based architects Calderpeel has been appointed chair of the board of Altrincham Unlimited, Altrincham’s Business Improvement District (BID).

Ewen Miller, who also chairs the Royal Institute of British Architects in the North West, takes over from Martin Duff of Randalls Jewellers who was in post for three years.

As chair, Miller will be tasked with running and operating the board and ultimately ensuring that the business plan is being delivered; focussing on enhancing Altrincham town centre as a destination for businesses, visitors, workers and investors through a range of events, projects and initiatives.

Miller is both a local resident and landlord, recently purchasing his firm’s building Market Court in the town centre.

After the first 10 years of his career in architecture in London, he relocated to Altrincham to work for Calderpeel Architects, who are known for innovative design and ‘thinking differently’.

He said: “Since moving to Altrincham I haven’t looked back, it’s a fantastic place to work and has recently been voted the best place to live in the North West.

“I’m relishing the prospect of leading the BID Board as we develop a clear and ambitious plan for the next stage of Altrincham’s future. I intend to keep the focus firmly on working collaboratively to enhance our trading and business environment to drive footfall and growth to the BID area.”

BID Manager, Elizabeth Faulkner, added: “We are delighted that the board has appointed Ewen to take on this role and as an already active board member we know he brings enthusiasm, positive influence and a strong vision to Altrincham.”
