Vinyl records shop opens in Altrincham town centre

A new independent vinyl records shop has opened in Altrincham town centre.

Tasty Records has opened in the Regent Road shop that has for most of the past half a century been occupied by Squires Antiques.

The owner of that shop has now retired and Ben Molesworth, who previously ran Soda comics and collectables store on Stamford New Road, has fulfilled a lifelong ambition by opening a record shop.

He has signed a five-year lease on the 500 sq ft unit.

He said: “I’ve been dealing in vinyl records for five years and this is the perfect place to open a new serious store, Tasty Records, which we hope to be in for the next 50 years. We cover every genre and deal with new releases and are official Record Store Day partners.”

Older readers will remember that Regent Road was once the home to another record shop, Double Four Records, before its closure in the 90s.

The opening comes just in time for this year’s Record Store Day on Saturday, a hugely popular initiative launched in 2007 that aims to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store.

Daniel Lee, director, Regional Property Solutions, who let the retail unit on behalf of a private landlord, said: “This area is certainly looking set to become Altrincham’s next hot spot which is borne out by the fact that we let this unit within three days of it coming available.”

The unit is not included in the £2.3million residential scheme being planned by Novo Property Group.
