Connect Altrincham, Timperley and Navigation Road rail line to Manchester Airport, says Brady

Sir Graham Brady has called for a new rail link to connect the mid-Cheshire line – which passes through Navigation Road, Hale and Altrincham – directly to Manchester Airport.

The Altrincham and Sale West MP wants Transport for the North – which was set up to co-ordinate transport in the region – to divert some of its investment into the project.

Transport for the North, England’s first ever sub-national transport body, is investing almost £48 billion in maintenance, modernisation and renewal on the rail network nationally between 2019 and 2024, which includes new and replacement signalling.

The government has also earmarked £450 million specifically for digital railway schemes.

Sir Graham said: “Connecting Navigation Road, Hale and Altrincham directly to the airport would be really useful for my constituents and it would make sense to use public transport instead of using already congested roads.

“As demand for aviation grows, it is important to take what steps we can to mitigate pollution and improve air quality: this is a simple measure that would mostly utilise existing infrastructure and would make a significant difference.”
