Three arrested over Moss Lane mugging – and linked to further Altrincham burglary yesterday involving machete

By David Prior at

Three males have been arrested in connection with a mugging on Moss Lane bridge yesterday – and are also thought to have gone on to use a machete in an aggravated burglary just a few hundred yards away.

We reported earlier how police were called to Altrincham town centre at 5pm yesterday afternoon to reports that three 15-year-olds had been mugged on Moss Lane bridge by Tesco.

And it’s now transpired that there was an aggravated burglary in Lloyd Gardens just after 7pm, when six offenders – one armed with a machete – broke into a house through the front door and threatened a man, woman and her young child.

The victims managed to lock an internal door in the property and protect themselves from the group before the offenders then fled the scene in the direction of Altrincham town centre.

Police believe both crimes were committed by the same people.

With the help of CCTV, GMP’s Sergeant Jon Ezard and his team managed to identity and detain two 16-year-old boys and and a 20-year-old man near to Altrincham Retail Park.

They were found to be in possession of a machete and a knife.

All three, who cannot be named due to the ongoing investigation, are now in custody.

Chief Inspector Jon Kelly, from GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “We currently have three people in custody arrested in relation to these incidents, and they will be questioned by detectives.

“Although we have made these arrests, our enquiries are very much ongoing and I would appeal for witnesses who may have seen what happened or knows who is responsible to please come forward to police.

“I am also keen to find out if there are any other victims who have not yet come forward and I would appeal to these individuals to report it to police.”
