Some of the region’s best boxers will be on show this Friday when they go toe-to-toe with the best of the Royal Marines in a unique fight night at Timperley ABC.

The event, supported by the Maverick Stars Trust, takes place on February 22nd at Altrincham FC’s community hall. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for children.

The Royal Marines’ boxing team secretary, Major Tommy McPhee, said: “For events like this the Royal Marines are able to select the best fighters available and this show will act as a spring board for the team’s forthcoming tour of the US where they will take on the United States Marine Corps in April.

“The team is heading to Altrincham hoping to defend its long winning streak. The team includes marines who are ranked in the top 10 in the country so we’re looking forward to a great night of boxing.”

Over the past few years, Timperley ABC has hosted teams from across the country and abroad, but the select Marines squad will offer a new challenge for local fighters.

Timperley ABC coach and secretary Mark Davidson said: “It’s fantastic to be able to provide our local fighters with such a fantastic opportunity to fight the best of the Marines.

“When young boxers have these kinds of nights to look forward to, they stay motivated and in the gym. We have some talented boxers in our gym and its great to see so many looking to develop and keep pursuing their dreams.”
