Willows Primary in Timperley has been named Trafford Music Service’s musical school of the term.
More than 100 pupils from Willows receive 130 hours worth of music lessons from the Service each week, with lessons taught by experienced teachers in a range of instruments including the violin, ukulele, guitar, flute and recorder.
All the children in Year 5 have also been learning the trumpet as part of the service’s Wider Opportunities project.
Headteacher Kirsten Warren said: “At Willows, we value music education, and it’s an essential part of our learning and school life.
“It is wonderful that we can make full use of the expert teachers that Trafford Music Service provides, and it’s a joy for me to hear such lovely sounds as I walk from classroom to classroom. Our young people really benefit from all the many skills that music education provides.”
Ruth O’Keefe, Head of Trafford Music Service, added: “The teaching staff are doing an amazing job encouraging their pupils to receive the lifelong skills and sheer delight of playing a musical instrument.
“It’s our aim to get as many young people as possible to have some form of expert music education in Trafford, whether it’s through schools or at our base at The Claremont Centre in Sale town centre. For more information schools and parents can contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org.”
