There’s a rare opportunity this weekend to learn from a group of touring Chinese master artists.

Five artists are currently touring the UK as part of a trip to develop cultural links between the UK and China, with the tour being filmed by the Qingdao TV station.

And the quintet, who each practice traditional Chinese crafts, will be teaching their skills at a series of workshops at Altrincham Open Studios on Stamford New Road.

The workshops will involve the art of paper cutting, calligraphy, painting by burning and fan making

The workshops, to be held between 12 and 2pm on Saturday and priced £25, will involve the art of paper cutting, calligraphy, painting by burning and fan making.

There is also a kite making workshop for adults and children – held between 10am and 12pm on Saturday and costing £20 – where each participant will take away three kites they have created.

All the artists practice traditional Chinese crafts

Jo Smith, from Altrincham Open Studios, said: “The workshops will be held by the artists themselves and will allow participants to experience ancient Chinese cultures and art.

“They are very keen to have local artists at the workshop as they will be able to gain more than most from it.”

Places can be booked via Altrincham Open Studios’ Facebook page or by emailing jo.smith@altrinchamopenstudios.org.
