A man in his 60s has died after being pulled from the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham

A man who was pulled from the Bridgewater Canal close to the Budenberg Apartments on Saturday has now sadly died.

A man who was pulled from the Bridgewater Canal close to the Budenberg Apartments on Saturday has now sadly died.

We reported how there was a major emergency response shortly after 3pm on Saturday following reports that a walker or cyclist had fallen into the canal close to the Manchester Road bridge.

Police have now confirmed that a man in his 60s who was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital has now died.

Greater Manchester Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a man who had been found in the canal in Altrincham at around 3pm on Saturday 6 October.

Police, fire and ambulance attended and the man in his 60’s was pulled from the canal by a joint effort.

“He was taken to Wythenshawe hospital where, despite best efforts of the emergency services, he sadly died.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
