Altrincham’s Christmas Lights Switch-On – one of the biggest events in the calendar – will get the festive period off to a flyer in the town centre this Saturday.

We’ve already revealed that two-million-selling singer songwriter Lemar will headline the Christmas Lights Switch-On show, to be held once again in Stamford Square.

And here’s everything else you need to go about Saturday…

What time is Altrincham’s Christmas Lights Switch-On show taking place?

From noon on Saturday, local school and community choirs, dances troupes and theatre groups will take to the Stamford Square stage. Choirs taking part include Altrincham CofE Primary School, Blessed Thomas Holford School, Bowdon Prep School, Wellington School, Park Road Academy Primary School and the Music Place. Also taking to the stage will be the Youth Section from Sale & Altrincham Musical Theatre who will be singing songs from Nativity and Matilda, and pupils from Cardwells Theatre School.

Top 10 star Lemar will headline, and the show will also feature CBeebies’ Katy Ashworth and the Little Belters Choir.

What else is happening in the town centre on Saturday?

Saturday will also see the first of five pop-up Santa’s Grottos in the town centre, at Rackhams from 11-4pm. There is no charge, but donations are welcome to Altrincham Rotary.

Santa will then be popping up throughout the town and will be at Wilko on Saturday 23rd November, Treehouse on George Street on Saturday 30th November, House Restaurant & Bar in Goose Green on Saturday 7th December and Orangetheory Fitness on Saturday 14th December.

Altrincham’s businesses will also be dressing their windows for Christmas and to enter this year’s Festive Favourite Window Competition, to be judged by award-winning architects Stephen and Claire Hodder. We’ll be hosting a ‘People’s Choice’ competition on our Facebook page, once again.

Kate Gerbich, Events and Communications Manager for Altrincham BID, said: “There’s always a fantastic atmosphere in Altrincham on the Christmas lights switch-on day and the event really marks the start of the festive season for the town!

“We expect it will be very busy and would encourage visitors to use public transport or, if you’re able to, join one of the BID’s ‘Quietways’ walks from Bowdon Vale or Timperley.

“Why not get here early to enjoy the town’s great selection of eateries and shops, and of course the performances throughout the afternoon on the Stamford Square Stage?”
