Sainsbury’s in Altrincham town centre has been bought by Trafford Council in a £25.6m deal.

The Lloyd Street supermarket was previously owned by Jersey-based BLCT (10775) Ltd, with records showing the transaction was actually completed back in March this year.

A spokesman for Trafford Council said: “We can confirm that Trafford Council has purchased the Altrincham Sainsbury’s site for £25.59m as part of our ongoing investment strategy. The site will be leased back to Sainsbury’s with all surpluses going back into Council services.”

Trafford has sought to bolster its investment portfolio in recent years, most notably with its acquisition of the Graftons Centre shopping mall and, in October, the Stamford Quarter and Clarendon House.
