A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found close to Ashley Mill Lane on the border between Hale and Ashley.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found close to Ashley Mill Lane on the border between Hale and Ashley.

It’s understood that refuse collectors made the discovery shortly before 8am this morning. There are also reports that the body was found in woods.

No identification has yet been made, said Cheshire Police in a statement. The age of the victim has not been confirmed.

A dog walker told Altrincham Today earlier that at least eight police vehicles had attended the scene and that a cordon had been set up close to the fields where the Ashley Hall Traction Engine Rally is sited.

Cheshire Police have now confirmed that the arrested 19-year-old is being questioned by officers on suspicion of murder.

“At 7.52am on Friday, December 13, police received a report of a body found on Ashley Mill Lane in Ashley,” a statement said.

“Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and the identification of the individual.”
