Two members of the public have been thanked by police after an incident in Timperley last night that saw two officers injured.

Officers say they a man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle after being stopped on Shaftesbury Avenue.

The suspect then attempted to flee the scene, however, and in the ensuing melee one officer suffered a dislocated shoulder, while another suffered a back injury.

Two people are then said to have become involved and helped the officers until back-up assistance arrived.

The officers have received medical care and are said to be “recovering well”.

GMP’s Trafford South division offered “many thanks” to the passers-by who came to the officers’ assistance.

The suspect was successfully detained by police and investigations are ongoing.

He has been charged with being in charge of a vehicle while over the prescribed alcohol limit and two cases of assault against police officers.
