Take a first look inside a redesigned Total Fitness Altrincham as it gears up for reopening

Total Fitness has given a first look at how it has redesigned its Altrincham gym to comply with social distancing regulations.

The new footage provides a tour of its Denmark Street health club, showing how the reception areas, changing rooms, gym floor, class facilities and pool area will now operate.

It comes after gyms were excluded from the list of businesses allowed to reopen from July 4th, but Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, said that he is hoping to be able to reopen gyms by mid-July.

The video shows that the gym has been redesigned to ensure all workout spaces are a safe distance away from one another.

Take a look:

Floor markings and hand sanitisers will be positioned throughout, and customers will be asked to wipe down locker handles and equipment before and after use.

Some equipment will be turned off to accommodate social distancing, and there will be a new online booking system to enable members to book individual ‘One Zone’ workout spaces, classes at 50% capacity and slots to use the pools.

Sophie Lawler, CEO of Total Fitness, said: “The Health club industry is highly professionalised and had always been at the forefront of the fight against preventable disease in the UK. It’s more important than ever that this valuable sector is again able to serve its members and at Total Fitness this is our number one priority.

“This is why we’ve been working hard in the background to plan a confident, safe and assured reopening with: contactless entry and exit; super-scale facilities in which our members can maintain social distance well, and; bookable services (gym floor, studio and poolside) to help members who would like surety around their visit and to also help us manage capacity and foot flow around our clubs preventing congestion in common areas.”
