Aldi is looking to open a 20,000 sq ft supermarket in Altrincham, its second in the town.

Aldi is looking to open a 20,000 sq ft supermarket in Altrincham, its second in the town.

The UK’s fifth largest supermarket has confirmed it has identified Altrincham as a suitable location as it targets 1,200 stores by 2025 – it currently has 880.

No exact location has been given for the new store yet, but Aldi says it is looking for a 1.5-acre site with room for around 100 parking spaces, “ideally on a prominent main road and with good visibility and access”.

Ciaran Aldridge, National Property Director at Aldi UK, said: “Aldi is growing rapidly and we are welcoming around a million new customers into our stores every year.

““We are willing to explore all opportunities, including developer-led schemes or existing retail units.”

Aldi is currently renovating the former B&Q on the Altrincham Retail Park ahead of a relocation

Aldi already has a presence in Broadheath and is currently in the process of renovating the former home of B&Q on the Altrincham Retail Park in order to relocate there.

The new store is 35% bigger than its existing 13,800 sq ft site, on the junction of Davenport Lane and George Richards Way.
