A fundraising page set up in memory of Luke Howe, the 14-year-old boy found dead on Friday, has now raised over £40,000.
Luke, who had learning disabilities, went missing from Hale on Thursday evening and his body was found in the River Bollin.
Luke's family set up a fundraising page to raise money for his school, Brentwood School, in the initial hope of raising £15,000 to pay for a new soft play area, an activity Luke loved.
Over two thousand donations quickly poured in, however, and earlier today the amount passed the £40,000 barrier.
A message posted on Facebook on behalf of Luke's sister, Lydia, said: "Your donations mean so much to my entire family and we are so happy that we have gone past our original fundraising goal by so much.
"We have had so many wonderful messages from friends and people we know, those connected to the schools Luke attended, Brentwood and Delamere, and from so many wonderful people we have never met, too, who have been sending their love."
