How the redeveloped Stamford Square will look

Starbucks is to open a brand new coffee shop in the Stamford Quarter’s Foundation building this spring.

The global coffee brand has been revealed as the latest tenant in the much-anticipated new development currently being built on the former site of the Rackhams department store.

The new Altrincham Starbucks is set to create 11 jobs and will be located in a 1,708 sq ft unit on the ground floor of the building. Starbucks does already have a presence in Altrincham but only as a concession shop inside Sainsbury's.

The new shop will sit alongside three other retail, hospitality and leisure brands including independent bowling alley and entertainment venue, Lane 7.

It will be designed bespoke for Altrincham with seating inside and out, flowing out onto Stamford Square.

The square is currently closed while redevelopment work continues on the Foundation project, which is set to be complete by the summer.

James Tootle, Head of Retail and Leisure at Bruntwood, said: “We’re delighted that Starbucks has chosen Foundation for its new home on the high street.

"A brand that is as globally popular as Starbucks is a fantastic bedrock for the Foundation community - one which will be made up of an exciting mix of independent and national brands.

The Foundation development is set to be completed by the summer

"It will be a vibrant workspace community which integrates and supports the hospitality offering with amenities that benefit the immediate area and the wider town. As work gathers pace on Foundation and Stamford Square, we’re looking forward to making more announcements soon.”

Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council, added: “We are totally committed to transforming our town centres and our work with Bruntwood on creating Foundation is a superb example of this.

"We are attracting huge names as well as independent brands to our town centres and that is fabulous news going forward.”

Foundation will also be home to a new state-of-the-art workspace for businesses of all sizes on the upper floor, bringing a whole new community to the Stamford Quarter.

A striking HYVERT living wall, home to 36,000 plants, has already been completed on the building's exterior.
