A new BBQ restaurant offering authentic South Asian cuisine has opened this week in Goose Green.

Gharaana, which has opened in the former Cactus + Coffee unit, is serving a mix of dishes hailing from Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bhutan.

It's been launched by head chef Deepak Gurung, who has 20 years' experience in India, Dubai and the UK working for brands including Accor, Marriott, Radisson and Sheraton.

Most recently, he was Group Executive Head Chef for Brilliant Hotels.

He says that Gharaana - which means 'homecoming' in Hindi - will offer "very authentic South Asian food", with all dishes charcoal-based.

Example dishes include Old Delhi Chicken Tikka Makhani, Chicken Momo and Tibetan Thukpa.

Gharaana is open every day except Tuesdays, and is open from 5pm to 10pm, with 12am closing on Friday and Saturday.

Asked why he had chosen Altrincham to launch Gharaana, Gurung said: "For anything to run successfully you need a good location, and you have that in Altrincham.

"We'll also bring something new to the table which I think people in Altrincham are more likely to accept. They're more open to trying new things."
