Fast-growing cafe bar group Loungers, which operates under the Lounges and Cosy Club brands, is to open a new site in the former Bistrot Pierre unit.

Loungers is to open a Lounge, called Oppio, in the two-storey space on the corner of George Street and Cross Street.

Bistrot Pierre closed down earlier this month after six years in the town.

But Loungers are hoping that Oppio will be open by April and will be creating 25 new jobs.

Although still fairly unknown, Loungers have experienced a rapid growth in recent years and last year opened its 200th site, with plans to grow to 500 venues.

The company achieved record results in 2021-22, hitting a revenue of £237.3m, with a pre-tax profit of £21.6m.

Founded in 2002 by three friends – Dave Reid, Alex Reilley and Jake Bishop – Loungers says it combines elements of restaurant, British pub and coffee shop culture. It was sold to Lion Capital in a deal worth £137m in 2016.

Loungers will be taking over the former Bistrot Pierre unit

Lounges are characterised by “informal, unique interiors with an emphasis on a warm, comfortable atmosphere”, with each site individually named and tailored to the site and local area.

Every Lounge offers all-day dining, with the same menu served from 9am and 10pm every day.

Lounges in the Manchester area include Navarro in the city centre, Benito in Chorlton, Bevano in Urmston and Expo in Didsbury.
