Wellington School is the third best comprehensive school in the whole of the North West, according to The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide.

The Timperley school achieved the rating in the 31st edition of the influential schools' guide, officially published today.

It is ranked behind only Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College in Blackburn and Cheadle Hulme High School in the whole of the North West region.

The guide uses data from the latest exam results to help draw together its rankings, and Altrincham’s leading schools once again dominate the rankings.

Indeed, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls and Altrincham Grammar School for Boys are rated the best state and grammar schools in the region.

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls is ranked the 10th bestb state/grammar school in the whole of the UK, although that represents a slight drop from last year's fifth place.

There are also very strong placings for Loreto Grammar (6th regionally and 70th in the country) and St Ambrose College (10th and 137th respectively).

Helen Davies, editor of the Parent Power guide, said: “The educational landscape continues to be challenging across both the state and independent sectors, and this is the first true assessment of post-pandemic exam results.

"We believe these rankings – and all the additional information on offer in Parent Power – provide parents with a more reliable guide to academic achievement in schools today."
