First look: Parasol, George Street, Altrincham

The Cheshire-based retailer has moved into the George Street unit that was last occupied by Carphone Warehouse before it closed down in November 2018.

Here's a first look inside Parasol, a new travel-focused clothing and lifestyle shop that opened in Altrincham town centre this morning.

The Cheshire-based retailer has moved into the George Street unit that was last occupied by Carphone Warehouse before it closed down in November 2018.

It stocks a huge array of travel-related accessories, from men's clothing and shoes to travel bags, eyewear, gifts and books. Brands stocked include Carhartt, New Balance, Clarks, Yeti and Sunspel.

Parasol Retail Ltd, the company behind the new shop, also owns a number of other brands including Manchester menswear retailer Yards Store and, next door, the UK's first Fjällräven store.

The new store has been designed by respected space design expert Kevin Gill and his team at One Fine Day Design.

Tim Gardiner, Parasol director and co-owner, said: “With the severe challenges that retailers in the UK have been experiencing, we believe there are great high street location opportunities for independent retailers such as us, the key is to have a distinct identity and a carefully curated brand line-up and this is what our team has achieved with the new Altrincham store.

“We believe that Altrincham is the ideal location to host our continued development of the Parasol brand and feel we sit perfectly with the existing retail and hospitality offering that Altrincham has been successfully evolving.”

James Tootle, Head of Retail and Leisure at Bruntwood, said the store was a "fantastic addition to the Stamford Quarter".
