An air ambulance was called out to Altrincham yesterday when a man suffered “major trauma” in a collision near to Sainsbury’s supermarket.

An air ambulance was called out to Altrincham yesterday when a man suffered “major trauma” in a collision near to Sainsbury’s supermarket.

North West Ambulance Service said a helicopter, two rapid response vehicles and an ambulance arrived at the scene – at the junction of Lloyd Street and Armitage/Denmark Street – at 3.52pm.

They found a male aged around 70 who had suffered numerous injuries, including injuries to the head, which the ambulance service classified as “major trauma”.

It’s understood the gentleman had been hit by a vehicle.

He was transferred to Royal Manchester Infirmary by land ambulance and there’s no update as yet on his condition.

Numerous people had seen the air ambulance helicopter land in Stamford Park.
