A man carrying a knife was arrested on board a tram at Altrincham yesterday.

A man carrying a knife was arrested on board a tram at Altrincham yesterday.

Officers were called to the Altrincham Metrolink stop at around 3.40pm yesterday afternoon after reports of a man with a knife.

The found the suspect on board a tram and he was arrested after “a brief struggle”.

The man, whose age has not been disclosed, was held on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

GMP’s Trafford South division said it appeared to be an “isolated incident”.

The statement read: “At 1540 hours this afternoon, Trafford South Police were called to Altrincham Metrolink Station after reports of a male with a knife. Patrols arrived within 2 minutes.

“On arrival, officers located a male onboard a tram. Following a brief struggle, an adult Male was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

“During the incident there was a number of commuters present. Please be assured this was an isolated incident, the weapon has been recovered & a male held in custody.”
