A man has been arrested after around £40,000 worth of handbags and coats were stolen from an Altrincham store.

Police were called to Flannels in Stamford Square at around 12.30am on Saturday 2nd February and found that a grey Toyota Aygo had reversed into the shop window.

Two other vehicles, a white Ford Transit van and a blue Audi A4, pulled up next to the store and a number of offenders ran in and stole the items.

The Toyota was left behind as the offenders made off from the scene in the other two vehicles.

The estimated £40,000 haul included designer handbags and coats.

Detective Inspector Dave Jones from GMP’s Trafford Borough said: “We now have an 38-year-old man in custody on suspicion of burglary.

“He will continue to be questioned over the coming hours about his involvement and our enquiries do not stop here.

“We are still keen to hear from anyone who might have seen something which didn’t seem right at the time, or someone who was behaving suspiciously.

“Also, you might have been approached by someone selling handbags or Canada Goose coats. If you have, then please call us.”
