New Hale clinic ChillGlow is first in the region to offer state-of-the-art freezing technology

A new clinic which promises a variety of mental and physical benefits by exposing the body to temperatures colder than an Antarctic winter has opened in Hale.

ChillGlow, on Broomfield Lane, is offering full body cryotherapy treatments using a state-of-the-art freezing technology developed and manufactured in Germany.

It works by exposing a person’s skin to temperatures of -87 degrees Celsius (-188 degrees Fahrenheit) for three minutes.

The clinic, which has been launched by Hale residents Liliana Ashton and local doctor Dr Natalie Summerhill, says the impact of the body’s outer skin being briefly ‘frozen’ is transformative.

Among the benefits are the relief of acute and chronic pain, relief of sleep disorders, improvement in fitness performance, an immune system boost and an enhanced feeling of wellbeing.

The clinic is the only one of its kind in the Greater Manchester region

With the cold causing the body to turn up its metabolic rate in order to produce heat, each session also burns between 500 and 800 calories.

The clinic is the only one of its kind in the Greater Manchester region, and uses a cutting-edge £125,000 cryotherapy machine imported from Germany.

Liliana, formerly a management consultant who has advised companies including Google, Shell and Michelin, is also a qualified yoga and Breathwork instructor and has gained certifications in Hatha, Yin, Hormonal yoga and Reiki.

She got the idea for ChillGlow when seeing the benefits of having cryotherapy treatments while living in Vienna.

She teamed up with her friend Natalie, who qualified as a doctor from King’s College London and is also the founder of Summerhill Health, a private clinic on the same site specialising in women and men’s health.

Dr Summerhill said: “A lot of my work in women’s health is around menopause and I wanted to offer an alternative treatment to HRT for those women who didn’t want to, or indeed can’t take HRT.

“Whole body cryotherapy complements my service and ticks a lot of boxes as a menopause treatment; aiding sleep, reducing aches and pains, reducing anxiety and providing a sense of well being and vitality.

“Many of my patients suffer from these issues during and after this time in life and it has already been revolutionary for my clients, reporting improved sleep, less aches and pains, mood uplift, appetite reduction and even weight loss.”

And since opening four weeks ago, the clinic has already built up a client base of over 60.

“The reaction so far has been amazing,” said Liliana.

“Some people have come in with a little bit of trepidation but because it’s dry cold it doesn’t feel as cold as you would expect.

“It’s like going to the top of a mountain in the Alps – I call it beautifully cold!

“People have been telling how well they have slept afterwards, and someone did it just before a half-marathon and recorded their best time ever because the treatment gives you extra energy and focus.”

Liliana said people could expect to feel benefits after one session but would see the biggest difference if they come back for regular treatments.

All customers have to complete a health questionnaire before undergoing the treatment and you are advised not to have one if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker fitted.

ChillGlow is open from Monday to Friday and then 9am-1pm on Saturdays.

The clinic also has exclusive distribution rights in the area for its state-of-the-art cryptotherapy chambers, allowing anyone to install their own chamber at home. Get in touch with ChillGlow for more details.
